REVIEWS & ENDORSEMENTS

The story begins when Ronan breaks up a fight between two thugs and a college kid outside a sports bar; it evolves into a tense tale of a highly addictive, extraordinarily damaging and illicitly produced form of desomorphine — and the drug cartel that supplies it. Along the way, Ronan, who’s gay, must deal with a threat to his partner, ER nurse Ty Andino, and with the unexpected arrival of his 18-year-old nephew, Nick, the son of Ronan’s estranged sister, Melissa. As the plots converge, the Mountain State seems not almost heaven but a hellish pit plagued by pharmaceutical abuse. Parker lives in Chesapeake, Ohio, and teaches writing and literature at Mountwest Community and Technical College in Huntington, W.Va., just over the Ohio River. As a man who lives and works in Appalachia, he’s well-acquainted with the scourge that painkillers have wrought on the region. And he puts that knowledge and his storytelling skills to work in this cracking good yarn, one that will whet the reader’s appetite for a second installment. ~ Jay Strafford, http://www.richmond.com/entertainment/books/article_c2dbff01-6d63-5715-bbd1-b55138fd2174.html

Eliot Parker creates interesting characters and wraps them around an enthralling story. ~ Kirkus Reviews
