The author of Going Beyond the Jesus Story is presently an Honorary Research Associate of the University of Tasmania’s School of Philosophy, and an active Associate Member of the Wester Institute in the USA. During the seventies he spent three years on the Central Committee of the Association for Humanistic Psychology in London, and taught part-time at the Franklin School of Contemporary Studies. The Westar Institute is composed of some two-hundred international New Testament scholars whose declared aim is religious literacy, and this affords him cutting-edge familiarity with the many problems that have surfaced in this thorny area of debate and argument. The Franklin School was similarly involved, being an experimental school set up in ’74 to teach and do research in psychology, history, religion and philosophy. The author's teaching endeavours there were under the supervision of Dr Maxwell Cade, a leading UK scientist and philosopher doing research in consciousness, awareness, pain management and remission in cancer patients. This work entailed experimental techniques in relaxation, meditation and biofeedback procedures, and was done in conjunction with researchers at London’s Bart’s hospital under the supervision of the cancer specialist Anne Wooley-Hart. The author was himself the subject of an experiment in thermographic photography to determine the effect of advanced yoga postures on the body.
